Newport-Mesa car dealer not on closure list

DateWednesday, June 10, 2009 at 3:04PM

Orange Coast Chrysler on Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa will not be one of Chrysler's 789 dealerships that are closing across the country.

“I assumed in advance that we were pretty much safe,” said Jon Gray, owner of Orange Coast. “However, I can’t say that the night before [the closure] letters went out, I didn’t say, 'What if ...' ”

Gray said the only dealership to be shuttered in Orange County was in Garden Grove, and he doesn't expect a huge increase in business because of it.

Prior to the announcement, Orange Coast had combined all three brands -- Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge -- under one location on Harbor Boulevard. Gray said his annual revenues are $50-60 million, which translates into major tax dollars for Coast Mesa.

So how’s business?

“Let’s just say it’s not getting worse, so, in essence, it almost feels likes it’s getting better,” Gray said.

This is great news. It would be terrible to have this dealership and family close their doors! The Gray's are such a great family business. Stop by and check them out!
